Moving To New Zealand

So it was the start of 2020 and there was this virus going around and my friend
Coco (her real name is Chloe but Coco for short) was moving from London to
New Zealand, Greymouth. 

Coco’s big blue eyes went so well with her wavy blond hair. She was born in
France so she carries a slight French accent and it makes her sound like her nose
is blocked when she is speaking. Her voice is very soft and sweet but powerful at
the same time.

Choe is my mum's friend's daughter. After a few weeks of enduring a rising case
rate we had to go into lockdown and the poor girl got really scared because she
had only just moved here 7 weeks ago. Coco felt really homesick. We were on the
phone for a long time. 

We were talking about our families and we were getting to know each other really
well and we were telling each other what we liked. And what we would do
together when we got out of lockdown. I turned the news on to get an update on
the virus and it was saying there were too many cars on the road and people were
going out too much. The cases were increasing every day.

 I asked Coco if she had spoken to her mum. Coco said, “No.” I thought it was a bit
weird. Coco was talking about how homesick she felt. But she didn't want to ring
her mum and dad for some reason. 

 My family, her on the phone and I were watching the news on the TV and America
had over 1 million cases. I thought to myself that the virus was spreading from
one to another like dominos being knocked down. 

Coco’s birthday was the next day. Coco really wanted her own pony so for her
birthday my family bought her a pony (before lock down) called Spot. He was a
big paint (brown and white) full height pony. I told her the day before her
birthday(today). She was so excited to have her own pony.

An hour had passed, her and I were talking about, spot and how nice he is.
Coco was so excited about coming and seeing him when we were in level 3.
But we were still in level 4. We just finished touring each other's houses on
face time.

 She was living with her mum's friends called Bobby and Ben. They are really nice
people and took care of her really well. I had a look at how long our call was and
it was 4 hours long. It was really fun talking to her though.

 I was out riding with Coco still on the phone and I had a fun ride with her on the
phone and I wished she was riding with me and Coco on her pony. Coco said
“I wish I was there to see Spot and you.” And I said “yea I would love you to come
up and ride.” 

I got so excited when we all moved out of level 4. I asked her what it is like in
London. She said, “It was hard because it is so busy over in London.” I was saying,
“It is really calm in Greymouth and a lot less busy than London.” 

We talked a lot more and did our work at the same time. Time flew and all of a
sudden it was time for tea. Coco had to go for tea so I said, “Bye” and she was
gone. I felt lonely again.

My Marae Recount

Noho Marae Trip

Term 2 week 1, 1-2 of May, most of the class plus another class in our School went to the Arahura Marae. Most of the people stayed the night. The people that came were the Teachers, Parents and Room 7 and 5. The Marae staff were Miriama, Terry and Tangi who is Terry's little cousin. We went to the Marae because we wanted to learn about staying at the Marae.

When you walk into the Marae it looks amazing. In the Marae there were patterns on the carpet and when you looked on the little low bench they had Pounamu lights. Also in the night our teacher turned all of the lights off and left the ribs/heke lights on and it looked so cool because the lights were L.E.D lights.

Evening rotations
 In the afternoon when it started to get dark that's when we started the rotations. I chose the technology challenge. And for the technology challenge Mylah, Indi, Alaska and I we were in a team together. We made Mylah look like Waitaki and she wore a skirt and a top made out of newspaper and sellotape. The next activity I did was the tukutuku panels. The tukutuku panels were so fun to do because you would weave in between the holes in the card with wool.



The next day we went on a Bush walk. Mylah and I had to find 6 plants and put a mark on a sheet. It was so easy to find the plants it took us like 5 minutes to find them all. Then we turned off at this part where you go down a smaller lane, and that lane was so much better. I felt free because there were muddy parts, parts that you had to jump down and run. It felt amazing to be there and I loved that walk! When we got to the lake we had some kai/food and the view was incredibly awesome. Then we started our way back.

I am so grateful we got to go. I could tell they put so much work and effort into the carvings. Thank you for taking us!
